Twilight - I'm laying down the line

I am getting sick and tired of the arguments, the picking of sides, the unreasoned attacks on either the author or people with reasoned arguments, the petitions, ect. But the thing I am getting most sick and tired of, is people asking me for my opinion.

It's not really people asking for my opinion that bothers me. What bothers be is their reactions. If I say I don't like Breaking Dawn, I get reactions along the lines of 'only someone who was never really a fan would say that'. If I express to some of my friends that I really did enjoy some parts of Breaking Dawn I am suddenly labeled as a 'rabid fangirl'. (Note: I do realize that my closer friends don't do this to me, but this is a generalization).

Now let's switch over to the chat rooms, and basic fan community. Debate; great, reasoned and slightly fired up argument; okay if the topic of debate is a large one, flame wars; unjust, unreasoned, mean, stupid, and unwelcome. The picking of sides; it can be just, when well reasoned, but if you're choosing sides to follow the crowd/friends/author to the death, or are picking sides because you think you need to pick sides, I will get mad. Mostly because this leads back to arguments.

Also, I need to say it right now. This is bugging me a lot 'Smeyer is trying to instill her Mormon beliefs on us!!!'. Do you want to know some other authors who put their religious beliefs into their writing? JK ROWLING, CS LEWIS. Do these names ring any bells? Their series' of books sell at least thousands every year and they aren't being flamed for it. Heck, Rowling has even been considered to be 'anti-christian' for having witchcraft in her books.

Now, so people can understand that you don't need to be at an extreme end of a spectrum when you have certain opinions, here are all of my opinions on the twilight series and recent occurrences...

Twilight was good, New Moon was better, Eclipse was great, The Host was excelent. Stephenie Meyer created high expectations for her books, and she'd been living up to them... So when Smeyer made the statement that basically said it was very unlikely that this book would have lived up to expectations, may I point out that if she'd not strayed so far from established cannon this story might have lived up to expectations. Look at Jo! She managed to live up to the majority's expectations, and her expectations were quite easily larger than Smeyer's were.

I do have the opinion that Bella is a Mary Sue, but when Mary Sues are well written, I am fine with it. This brings us to Breaking Dawn, Mary Sue suddenly became way too emphasized, and it was not well written.

I do not have qualms with the Quil/Claire imprint. I completely understand that there is no romantic feeling what so ever, and there won't be until she is closer to Quil's physical age biologically. I do have qualms with the Jacob/Renesmee imprint. It is too based on physical age over a mix of biological/physical. My basic point is this; Renesmee is full grown when she is SEVEN biologically. She still will not have enough experience to truly consider herself an adult, and it's very likely she will go off with Quil, no problem. It just makes me uneasy.

This series has been mainly about choices, giving up things for other things. This was one of the many things that grounded Smeyer's books in reality. Choices no longer exist in Breaking Dawn. Bella gets everything she wanted in the end, with no consequence. Way to back up a theme!

I actually did like Jacob's perspective. It was something refreshing and new. It was also something that I've wanted since I read New Moon. Jacob is the most realistic character in the series by far, and he's worthy of this honor.

Renesmee cannot exist. Smeyer competely ignored established cannon right here. Explain how this is possible scientificaly, and I might chang my mind.

My opinions on the boys... Mike is clingy and annoying. Some people like that, I don't. Edward is an empty box with luxurious wrapping. He's polite, kind, and has many other excelent qualities, but these should all be secondary to the personality, the present that's supposed to be inside the box. (Note: The following opinion is highly biaused) Ben is awesome. He's nerdy, sweet, shy, and so many other things... I was never kidding when I said I was Team Ben. Jacob, is a realistic teenager, boy person. He makes a lot of mistakes on the way in his life. Most importantly however, he has a personality. I cannot stress that enough. If I had an option between Edward and Jake my choice would be Jake, end of story. (Ben v. Jake is again, another story).

Oh, and Midnight Sun is the best thing Stephenie's written, she's stupid to not publish it. I am a writer, and other writers are saying that you need to be a writer to understand why she can't finish it. Again, I am a writer, would any of you other writers like to try and explain this concept to me?

These are my basic standpoints on the series right now. And understand, I DO love all of Smeyer's other books, but I just can't understand Breaking Dawn.

Also, I am now afraid to go into chat rooms, forums, ect. because there is always one rabid anti-fan at an extreme end of the spectrum, and rabid fangirls at the other, so if anyone has any ideas about how to get over these fears leave a comment. Also leave a comment if you feel like debating... I'm interested to hear others REASONED opinions :)

Cheese, Nerdfighters, and Seven Postitions

I could rant for a while about HP being moved, but I'll do that later. (As in, another post).

So lately I've noticed that I've been saying one particular phrase a lot - using it as an ice breaker sort of thing when it gets awkward. 'Do you like cheese?' I'm serious, I've been asking people this. So, when I searched the phrase on Google, the first result was a quiz "What Kind of Cheese Are You?" Apparently, I am American cheese. And I was so sure I'd be Swiss.

I have discovered Hank and John Green (please don't hunt me down if that was incorrect!), and I am now a Nerdfighter. I love the chat room there. People are so nice, and intelligent. Tell me where else you can find people who have a tendency to spell everything correctly. And they all are into nerdy stuff like Star Wars, Harry Potter and all that other good stuff. I also love the weapons of choice; Brain (I think I use mine adequately), Heart (Umm, mine beats?), Calculator (It solves the fancy equations so that I don't have to), and the Trombone (used to play it! WOOO! Go low brass!). Oh, and you're probably wondering what the weapons are for. Nerdfighters are fighting against world suckwith our brains, hearts, calculators, and trombones.

On that topic of musical instruments I must admit it. I am a geek who can play the cell phone. Actually, I was bored, searched for random things, and eventually came across a website of instrument jokes. There are several that I'm fond of from there, so I'm going to bullet some of my favorites.

• How do you tune two (insert instrument here)s? Shoot one of them.
• How can you tell if a kid on the playground is the child of a trombonist? He can't swing, and he has complains with the slide.
• What do you call a (insert musician type here) with half a brain? Gifted.
• What's most tragic about a minivan with five (insert instrument here)s running off a cliff? You could have fit more.
• (innuendo alert!) Trumpets do it with three fingers, baritones do it with four, but trombones do it in seven positions. (I laughed way to long when I read that).
  
• Two tuba players walk past a bar... Hey! It could happen.

Nobody ever gets the last one when you say it to them. I only found two friends who got it. Even after I explained that the stereotype is that tubas are drunks. And that's my favorite after the seven positions too...

So, I've made friends with another Slytherin. I told you there were other anti-Voldemort (you don't pronounce the T people, get it right!) Slytherins out there. You just have to look real hard. But it's nice to be friend with another Harry Potter freak for once, because they don't think you think about Harry Potter way too much.

Oh, and another friend of mine and I are trying to annoy our friend into reading Harry Potter as well as we possibly can, by calling her, and asking for the transfiguration homework. Since I know that she reads this, she should know that if she doesn't start reading the books soon, I'm going to call for the Transfiguration homework at three in the morning, and that won't be fun.

I also realised that I haven't mentioned it, but I'm one of the people who didn't like Breaking Dawn. Mary Sue completely pulverized the book. And with the way Jacob's book ends (book 2), there's no way in hell that there will be a fourth movie. However, even with this disappointment, I look forward to the Twilight movie, which got moved after what I shall forever more refer to as the day of black potter happenings, to November. Oh, and the majority of the teeshirts for the movie are REALLY tacky.

It's slightly past eleven, and I will still procrastinate on going to sleep... But it's best to be off.

This Chick Reads WAAY Too Much

Hey Guys, it's Tuesday! And I'm not a member of the five awesome girls but, it doesn't mean that they have that phrase copyrighted or anything. (Yeah, that was a TOTAL 'placement ad', but I seriously love watching those girls!).

Anyways, it's Tuesday. Let's pretend that Saturday = 7, and Tuesday = 3. Now what is the difference between Saturday and Tuesday? The answer: FOUR FREAKING DAYS TILL BREAKING DAWN BY STEPHENIE MEYER.

Was I clear enough?

Just to be sure... FOUR FREAKING DAYS TILL BREAKING DAWN BY STEPHENIE MEYER!!!

Now, I'm not as excited about this as I was Deathly Hallows (please view the monologue I wrote on the 21st...), but I feel it's safe to say that I am really freaking ecstatic about this book. I'm not even speculating about this book like I did for the last book in the series that came out (Eclipse) - let alone nearly every HP book after four - but I'm still excited all the same.

I'm betting that a few of my friends *coughsierracough* are thinking that I'm crazy for not speculating, but I have a very easy reason. Stephenie Meyer always does things in surprising ways, ways that really can't be predicted. Sure there is definitely some speculating on Bella's powers that I could do, but the moment I read the first chapter of Breaking Dawn in the Eclipse special edition, I was positive that the Wedding would be relatively non-problamatic. There is truly no way to have an idea of what's going to happen in more than a hundred pages of the book (unless they've been spoilerfied). So I've decided not to fret, and just enjoy the ride.

Now I'm going to inform you of my plans for the release. I'm going to a barnes and noble, because even though Borders is cheaper, and I have a borders card, I really enjoyed the Harry Potter release party for DH, not to mention that I think BN has better service. After probably having to spend two hours waiting to get our book after midnight, my friend and I (probably extremely tired at this point, will start reading in the car, then, once home, will grab some soda to stay up and sleep deprived, so we can attempt to read the book.

Oh, and I'm also making a t-shirt at the last minute that basically states that I'm team ben (which is a joke), hilariously on a t-shirt if I do say so myself.

Now, on to the song!

I've been getting a wee bit obsessed with wizard rock as of late, so I've decided to make this post's song 'This is Never Going to End' by The Parselmouths (The lead singer - I think - is Monday on five awesome girls). I'm choosing it mostly because of July 21st, but also because it's the first song on their myspace...

WTF!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Okay, I completely meant to post this when everything started, but I was so outraged that I spent quite a bit of time in a chat room discussing laziness that is WB.

With that in mind, watch this 'teaser'.



Here are some quick notes to prove to some of you that I'm not an idiot about what's going on.

• I know that there is supposed to be a full length teaser coming out with the Mummy movie.
• I just looked at mugglenet, and apparently we are getting the theatrical trailer with the mummy.
• And for two, I am aware that I'm six days late with giving you my outrage here.

Now with that in mind, here is my list of many things WB screwed up on.

1. The mpaa message saying that the preview has been approved for all audiences, blah blah blah, was one third of the length of the ACTUAL trailer (if you can even call it that!)
2. The members of the Harry Potter fandom had come to expect that trailers would be delivered to us in a timely manner. I can remember a TON of mugglecast episodes speculating over when we would get this. This length of time gave us greater expectations than WB seems to care about.
3. To emphasize point number two, I must point out that Twilight - a movie that comes out later than Harry Potter - got their teaser trailer on May 5th OR EARLIER.
4. Now this didn't happen to me, but many have stated that they couldn't understand Michael Gambon the first time through.
5. There isn't even a clip of Gambon saying the line to Daniel, which can make one become under the impression that the line isn't even in the movie.
6. You can only see the words Harry Potter (in full) for two seconds.
7. To loosely quote someone else 'when people saw the words harry potter they started cheering, and then got quiet in confusion as to where the rest of the teaser was'.
8. This is the only teaser we get.
9. The actual trailer is going to be with THE MUMMY. I'm sorry but WB's only putting it there because the movie is going to be a huge flop.

Don't you think that's plenty of reason to feel neglected by WB?

UPDATE: It has been confirmed by Warner Bros that the REAL teaser is coming out with the Mummy. It still doesn't mean that I'm not outraged, it just means there's one less bullet up above (I haven't deleted it from above, I just don't count it anymore).

A year in reveiw.

For most of you it's probably already Tuesday July 22, 2008. But here it's still Monday the 21st of July 2008 so I have to give a monologue.

366 Days ago, I was anticipating all day about the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. 365 Days ago, I held Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in my hands for the first time. 364 Days ago, I put Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on my shelf.

366 Days ago, I read everything I could find on Mugglenet.com. 365 Days ago, I stayed up late into the wee hours of the morning trying to read as much as I could before I'd plop asleep. 364 Days ago, I closed the book - I'd read the last words.

366 Days ago, I had no idea of the end. 365 Days ago I cried as Harry walked to his death. 364 Days ago, 'all was well'.

I cried when Hedwig died. I cried when I believed Hagrid to be dead. I cried when George's ear was cut off. I cried when Dobby died. I cried for Snape, Colin, Fred, Remus, and Tonks in the final battle. Bellatrix Lestrange did not deserve my tears. Lord Voldemort deserved them even less.

I smiled when Ron complimented Hermione, and she blushed. I smiled when Ron asked Hermione to dance. I smiled when Ron and Hermione held hands while they slept. I grinned like a MANIAC - perhaps I even giggled - when Hermione jumped Ron in the middle of the Battle of Hogwarts and practically made out with him.

Between 364 days ago, and today a lot has happened. Dumbledore was outed as having fallen in love with Grindelwald - something that recieved as much press as the release of DH. JK Rowling sewed RDR books for trying to sell Harry Potter encyclopedias, when JK planned to write one herself. Warner Brothers announced that the Harry Potter films were the largest grossing film franchise of all time, at 4.47 billion to that date. JK toured the US for the first time in many years. Warner Brothers announced that they were splitting the Deathly Hallows movie into two.

Between 364 days ago and today... I posted my first harry potter fanfiction (and then realized that fanfiction is NOT my strong suit). I subscribed to Mugglecast. I discovered the Parselmouths, and started paying attention to some wizard rock groups. I truly talked to my current best friend for the first time, because I was reading DH. I attempted to read Philosopher's Stone en Espanol (don't know how to add the tilda...). I began checking Mugglenet at least daily. I visited an HP forum for the first time. I got an Order of the Phoenix poster. I reread Sorcerer's Stone one time. I reread Chamber of secrets one time. I reread Prisoner of Azkaban three times. I reread Goblet of Fire two times. I reread Order of the Phoenix one time. I reread Half-Blood Prince (my favorite) five more times. I reread Deathly Hallows four more times. I managed to get my mother to read the first chapter of the series.

Because of the Harry Potter series and fandom... I'm interested in starting a podcast. I'm interested in being a writer. I made a few friends. I started learning about the Genocide in Dafur. I 'eemproved' my Brittish accent. I read more fantacy. And so much more.

So the Harry Potter series may have been over for a year now. So eventually there will be very little fandom left. That doesn't matter as long as Harry Potter lives on in our hearts.

With that cheesy note, I think it's best to be off!

Quickie

UPDATE: My bubble is burst. The advance screenings begin this weekend, not the general admission... :(

There is A LOT of stuff that has suddenly come round, so I'm just warning you beforehand to expect a huge post tomorrow or the day after. This is majorly because it is almost guaranteed that the HP6 teaser trailer will be coming out with the movie 'Dark Knight'. Basically I'm saying that I'm going to be searching youtube every five minutes tomorrow for 'half blood prince' until I find the trailer posted - unless mugglenet says that there wasn't a trailer, in which case I will be VERY sad :'(

You can already tell I have a lot to say on the matter.

Also, this post is here to inform you that I will be updating the list of songs on the side (UGH! I promise to never procrastinate ever again! I super pinkie swear!)

Heh, guess I was wrong about not getting a life. In fact, I bet that if I hadn't taken summer PE I would right now be staring at my ceiling. I once managed to do that for a half hour you know!

I'm going to be on a plane tomorrow night going to Maui. My friend (I think she posted once as Biggs429) is on the island for her uncle's 50th birthday. So I get to see her for the first time in months. It's making me a bit delirious with happiness. Okay, excuse me as I go crazy for a second in delirious fun.

Okay, slight delirium is gone (sort of).

So I'm also a little upset as well. You see the author mental from HPFF (on the side bar) said that she'd update Match. today, but she has yet to update. I'm rather bummed out, she left off with a slight cliffie (okay, so deadly flying purple socks that have suddenly spawned, and James Potter sounding like he's about to pull out a sword is more of something funny than a slight cliffhanger, but it still doesn't mean that I don't want more!).

Adding to my uphoria of happiness is that WALL-E is coming out this weekend.

Adding to my being upset is that there WASN'T A TEASER TRAILER!!!! (I'm very angry! Twilight's teaser comes out about a month ago, while HP6 - which comes out before twilight only has international release dates! I feel jipped.)

The final thing to add to my uphoria (bipoler much?) is that my mom promised that we aren't having fast food tonight! I am SO sick of fast food...

Song #? (I really need to update the side bar...) is No One Knows by Queens of the Stone Age (a group of men). It ends with someone speaking spanish, but other than that I think it's a good song.

Wall-E, Breaking Dawn, and OMG

Hey people of Earth. Or maybe Mars... Do they have internet on Mars yet? :P

So I'm here today (OMG!!! She's actually posting). Yeah, I haven't been posting as regularly, but I think it's because I've finally gotten a life... BUT with summer approching I'm likely to loose that life in a matter of days. We can only hope that Summer PE (so I don't have to take the class next year), can help me keep SOME semblance of a life. Of course, it's not likely to happen... Aw, well!

Now, I may not be the best judge of movies, but I feel a need to speak about Wall-E. Wall-E is Pixar's newest film, coming out June 27th. Get this almost NO DIALOG (sp?). That's right!!! The main characters can NOT talk. Talk about crazy (cheezy pun, yes I know...[actually, did anyone even figure out it was a pun at first glance? - just a thought]).

Anyways, it has robots, and romance, so that's a bit for the guys and girls (though I think that both aspects make it great...). Plus this little robot just looks so cute. Plus he's curious if you've seen the commercials, reviews, ect.

Now, I've seen all the Pixar movies besides Ratatouille, and I feel I can safely say that they haven't made any horrible movies whatsoever (Cars was a little overhyped and little kid friendly, but I still think it was good[ish?]), so I feel that I trust Pixar enough to make another great film.

Okay, so one thing I have to say. WHO IS IN THE PROLOGUE!!!! Who in the flippin' world is she talking about? The only people I can think of are Edward and Jake, and I now think I must admit I'm a team Jacob who completely supports Bella in her choice of Edward. So, I'm basically saying that I have trouble thinking that it could be Jake, but I also think it impossible for Edward to hurt Bella.

I have come up with an alternative solution.

Bella is thirsty and after humans but Edward is trying to keep her from doing something stupid. The major problem with this is that she is 'marked for disaster', so this solution doesn't work. I must grudgingly admit that it could also be Jake - now so wild - who can't stop himself from attacking Bella.

Maybe I should start hoping for her to fall in love with Ben Cheney... (yes that's right I'm team BEN, [I even made a t-shirt for it :D]).

The part about Jake - after I'd reread the Epilogue of Eclipse a bundle of times - was rather expected for me. I figured that as a wolf, they could still track him, so they wouldn't be on the (pretend) search - even if the whole town was searching.

I had been expecting WAAY more drama from Bella's family. I mean, Charlie was supposed to turn colors then yell. And Renee was supposed to refuse to go to the wedding or something! Although - even though I now realize the obviousness of it - Charlie thinking Bella to be pregnant was H!-I!-L!-A!-R!-I!-O!-U!-S!

I absolutely CANNOT believe that Bella gave in so much. I thought she was strong enough to fight the system! And I saw the video of the closest car to the 'Guardian' getting hit with tests like BEING SHOT AT!!!! It was a really awesome video, & I'd post the link, but I can't find it :(

I like the idea of Bella still having a link to the pack through Seth (and Seth & Edward striking up friendship) and it makes me wonder what drama will come of it...

BIG LETTERS

Now, don't think that I'm being hypocritical when you first read this. I H A T E O M G.

I'm not talking about when people are texting, bloging, ect. I'm talking about the people who SAY omg. I can understand typing in OMG because it's easier, and less tedious than Oh, My, God (or Gosh - if the idea's offensive). Plus OMG looks more urgent than Oh My God. But for heaven sakes, if you're too lazy to SAY 'oh, my, god', then you shouldn't be talking at all. I don't have time for people THAT lazy, because if you're that lazy then you probably don't bother to think for yourself...

That's my 2 cents.

For the heck of it I've been coming up with a bunch of tee-shirt ideas (related to twilight), but I'm not going to tell anyone any of them until after all of the books in the series are published (including Midnight Sun).

Podcasting

Okay, so my friend and I are starting a podcast for the twilight series, the host, and whatever else Stephenie Meyer might come out with. Our first episode is being recorded this Friday. We're going to be talking about what we thought of the Host. Our podcast is called 'Anti-Human', and I urge you to be there on the 21st when we will have the first episode out. (I must sheepishly admit that I'm not done with the design yet, so enjoy how lame it is while it lasts).

I also might learn how to make a banner ad and put it into the sidebar here.

I finished the Host. Six (or seven, it you count the have from I've) words to describe it "The best book I've ever read". It took me two days to read it. That book is so huge. My friend (see above) has my book, so I can't start re-reading it yet. I just asked her if she can finish it by Friday (again, see above) and she told me she still has to ask if she can do the podcast. YIKES!

I know that you're probably getting tired of all the Paramore songs of the day (although I'm not!) so I'm giving you another song by Death Cab For Cutie. My choice is 'What Sarah Said', it's on the CD Plans.
